Koreen Daniels speaks at Healthier Black Elders Center’s “Lunch-n-Learn Series”
Koreen Daniels, Elder Care Specialist with Homewatch CareGivers, was invited to speak at the Healthier Black Elders Center’s “Lunch-n-Learn Series” on April 13, 2011. The event was organized by Wayne State University Institute of Gerontology as part of their Community Outreach Program.
The topic of the presentation, “Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Stroke Prevention, & Treatment”, was gratefully received by over 80 seniors attending the event. Many of those in attendance were looking for answers to their questions about successfully aging as minority members in the community of Detroit. They were also seeking information on assistance for the family members affected by aging parents and grandparents. The focus of the presentation included adapting to life with Alzheimer’s Disease and learning common sense tips for caring for seniors with dementia.
Mark Small Speaks at Summit Academy Schools
Mark Small, Director, The Guidance Center, Adult and Family Services, was invited to provide seminars to Summit Academy Schools on Suicide Prevention. Mark spoke to staff, parents, and students on signs of suicidality, the impact of depression and anxiety as contributors to suicide, and steps to take if an individual is suspected of being suicidal.
